If You’re A Young Area Creative Who Already Loves Dallas Music, Nightlife, Food, Fashion, Art And Culture, We Might Have The Perfect Opportunity For You.
Finals are coming up. And right after that? The holidays. If you’re a North Texas college student, you’ve sure got a lot of on your mind these days.
Well, not to totally stress you out or anything, but we’d like you to dedicate some head space to the following question real quick: Got an internship lined up for the spring yet?
If your answer’s no, you better get on that — and fast.
Hey, maybe an internship with us is the ticket! If you regularly read Central Track, then you know what we’re all about: We keep our eyes firmly locked on all things Dallas culture-related, and we bust our tails doing our best to report on the city from different angles than the other publications around town. We also aren’t scared to tell it like it is — presuming the facts back our arguments up, of course.
If that sort of mindset sounds calls out to you, please take a minute to read the below descriptions of the interns we’re seeking to join our team next semester:
- Editorial Interns. Our ideal candidate here is not just interested in area culture (music, nightlife, fashion, restaurants, bars, etc.), but also at least a little familiar with it. Applicants should be strong, efficient and prolific writers who aren’t afraid to have and share an opinion. Responsibilities will include assisting in our day-to-day operations, maintaining and contributing to our daily event previews, and crafting for publication other articles, both pitched and assigned.
- Photography/Graphic Design Interns. The perfect candidates here should be well-versed in all aspects of the Adobe Suite, and a creator in their own right. We seek interns who are eager to help our writing staff better visualize their stories, but are also capable of telling their own stories through visual means. Responsibilities will include photo editing, creating infographics and shooting concerts and other events that happen throughout the market.
- Social Media/Marketing Interns. Here, we seek candidates with an interest in social media, events and branding. Responsibilities will include conceiving and executing social media campaigns, assisting with event production and helping out with other branding efforts, both inside and outside of our office.
- Video Interns. As Central Track looks to expand its video offerings for both editorial and promotional projects, we’re seeking interns with the ability to help us produce that content. Responsibilities will include assisting on video shoots, logging footage, pre-editing, editing, working on motion graphics, applying text overlays and more. Previous working experience with Adobe Premiere and After Effects is preferred.
If you’re enticed by what you just read, but wish you could ask a previous Central Track intern what they thought of the experience?
Here’s current Central Track intern Claire Lin, who is about to publish a whole gang of stories in her final few days with us, on what she’s gleaned from her time here: “I learned all about a lot of different styles of articles and how to write them — lots of variety. It was cool!”
If this all sounds cool to you too, just know that the top candidates for these positions would preferably be currently enrolled in an area college or university, and would thus be able to receive class credit in exchange for their internship. (We’ve worked with most accredited North Texas colleges and universities to accomplish this — so this might apply to you even if you’re not yet sure it does. Be sure to consult a counselor at your school to find out for sure.)
As for requirements of the internship, we’ll ask you to come into our Deep Ellum offices at least 10 to 15 hours every week, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each Monday and Friday. We’ll work with you to customize a schedule that works well for both our needs and yours, but you’ll be expected to provide your own laptop, transportation to and from the office, and any other basic gear that may be necessary for your field.
Want to apply for opportunity? Please shoot me an email — sent it to pete [at] centraltrack [dot] com — and be sure to put “2019 SPRING INTERNSHIP” in the subject line so we can easily find it. Be sure to include a resume, links or attachments to work samples that align with the position you seek and a cover letter that details why you think you’d be a good choice for an internship at Central Track.
The deadline for applying for a Spring 2019 internship is 5 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018. Applications send in even a minute after that will not be accepted — deadlines are a thing in this field! — so you’d be best serve sending your information our way well before then.
We look forward to hearing from you all!
