This Saturday, 2,000 Hackers Met Up For A 24-Hour Marathon Session at Gilley’s.

For the second straight year, HackDFW hosted its 24-hour Hackathon event, where some 2,000 coders and computer programmers from high schoolers on up converged in the Gilley’s complex for a marathon session of collaborating and tweaking, all the while developing products and solutions that will likely impact the future.

Like last year’s event where celebrities like Mark Cuban provided feedback to participants, Saturday was filled with rooms and rooms of folks clicking away on mice, their faces lit by the glow of laptops in the dimly lit music halls or otherwise dragging around blankets while searching for the tiniest nook to catch a few winks before diving right back into the fray.

It is a marathon, after all, and not a sprint.

Walking through rows of gadgets and wires, hearing a random shout of “Yes!” or “Finally!” wasn’t uncommon. Once again, the participants’ hard work shined through in each of these unique projects. And for its part, HackDFW made it all possible — not only providing everyone a place to come together and lend each other helping hands or new ideas, but by sharing free supplies as well.

Let’s be real: The unlimited supply of Red Bull probably helped a good deal.
