Uke and Rally with Eddie Vedder in Fair Park.
We have exactly one week until Thanksgiving is upon us.
For some, this brings cheerful images to mind — spending time with family and feasting upon homemade food.
For others, however, the thought of either of those things fills their hearts insurmountable dread. A weekend (let alone a day) with those people you were cursed to be related to is enough to make some shrink back in fear. And that before we even mention your aunt Mary's horrid, overcooked meals.
The fear surrounding Halloween was nothing. Thanksgiving is the real horror show.
To those of you who fit into the second category (those who would rather watch the film Tremors on repeat for the entire day than see their relatives): Fret not.
You still have about week to live it up before you see them. Luckily, there are a ton of things going on today to kick off your week of binge-partying.
Eddie Vedder at The Music Hall at Fair Park
Pearl Jam frontman/Rachel Ray vocal twin Eddie Vedder is going to be in Dallas today performing at The Music Hall at Fair Park in support of his solo record Ukelele Songs. Previously scheduled back in April and postponed due to medical reasons, the event was moved to today, so tickets for the first scheduled time will be honored at the door.
Jim Norton at Addison Improv
Comedian Jim Norton, best known as a correspondent on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and “that guy” from the Opie & Anthony radio show, is bringing the laughs tonight at the Addison Improv.
Rusko at Lizard Lounge
Ready to rave? Want to be super sore the next day (in the good way) from so much dancing and bumping into strangers? Dubstep pioneer Rusko will be spinning tonight at Lizard Lounge. The event starts at 9 p.m. and goes until 4 in the morning, so pace yourself.
MacHomer at Winspear Opera House
If you love Shakespearean tales but would rather replace the original characters with iconic 20th century cartoons, boy, do we have some good news for you! Comedian Rick Miller will be performing his one man show, entitled MacHomer, at the Winspear Opera House tonight. The show has Miller on stage, acting out as the characters from the The Simpsons, if they were characters in the story of Macbeth.
RA Sushi 15th Anniversary
RA Sushi in Plano (and all RA sushi's in America, really) will be celebrating 15 years of business, and as such, will be giving costumers a 15 percent discount off of their tab today, while donating 15 percent of their profits to Feed South Florida.
VHS or Beta at Kessler Theater
Kentucky disco-ish outfit VHS or Beta performs at the Kessler tonight, presumably to make you dance a bunch. And guess what? The show tonight is free.
THRWD Magazine Release Party
Presented at Evol Society, THRWD Magazine will be hosting this launch party tonight at 7:30 p.m. in celebration of their first couple of issues. There will be free copies of the first and second runs of zine (provided they don't run out), as well as prints and T-shirts available for purchase. Also: A DJ. And refreshments!
Ginger Man Block Party
As part of Dallas's beer week, the Ginger Man bar will be having a block party, complete with beer, live music and food trucks. Bring your thirst, and maybe any redheaded friends of yours.
Non-Perishable Comedy at Dallas Comedy House
Another Thursday, another chance for half-priced laughs at the Dallas Comedy House. Here are the details: Each Thursday in November, the Dallas Comedy House offers half-priced admissions on Thursdays in exchange for two cans of food to be donated to the North Texas Food Bank. Go laugh, and help those in need.
