There are some good things and there are some bad things to be said about the new Star Trek movie. My friend Nick Brooks and I disagreed a good deal over which part won out.

Me, I really enjoyed the easy, casual depth of the plot. Nick, on the other hand, rightly points out that we've more or less been spoon-fed this same story at least three times now.

But that's only part of the discussion here.We also spend a good chunk talking about how previous knowledge of a director's work can influence the way we watch movies — a pertinent subject here given that this one's the first in the franchise to see Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) taking over the reins from J.J. Abrams.

Listen in as we work all that out.
