Join The Hysteria At American Airlines Center.

Anyone who keeps up with this column even infrequently will tell you this is the space each week when we bemoan how there's just not that many awesome things to do on a typical Monday night. But thanks to the US government's need to celebrate the social and economic contributions of its workforce, we get an extra night of partying this week. And, as to be expected, Dallas stepped up. Oh, thank heaven for three-day weekends.

Free Week at Rubber Gloves
Now that all the incoming UNT/TWU students have had a little time to settle in, Rubber Gloves is kicking off its annual week of completely free, top-notch local shows to help acquaint the noobs to the Little D. Fear not, though, lifelong Denton residents: You are invited to tonight's Spooky Folk, Danny Rush and the DD's, The Demigs and Deep Snapper show, too.

Rock of Ages tour at American Airlines Center
Not only have Def Leppard and Poison almost singlehandedly soundtracked The Great American Strip Club Visit, they've given us a welcome respite from what otherwise would have been a night filled exclusively with Motley Crue cuts. Plus, as the extraordinarily astute Jimmy Pop Ali once pointed out, the drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm.

FOElympics at Fraternal Order of Eagles
The FOE is more than just the pool of choice for Dallas hipsters. For instance: Did you know that the Eagles were responsible for getting President Wilson to sign a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day? Or that seven US presidents have been members of the order? Today's swimming events, foot races and ground games will benefit a children's charity named after the guy who narrated that Rankin/Bass Frosty the Snowman Christmas special. Get this: Jimmy Durante was also a member of the FOE.

Rangers Race at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington
Have you ever caught yourself sitting around with a group of buddies, wondering how fast former Texas Rangers first baseman Pete O'Brien could still run now that he's 54? Settle the dispute once and for all with a 5K run this afternoon in Arlington!
