Maren Morris – “Kingdom of One.”
RIYL: Watching the throne.
What else you should know: Last week, our recurring local music news and notes column, we mentioned Marren Morris’ involvement in the star-studded Game of Thrones comp that HBO’s dropping at the end of the month.

But you won’t have to wait for winter to come to hear her song in-full – or for the scheduled April 27 release date. Winter is here, and it finds the Thrones fanatic channeling her inner Daenerys Targaryen, ready to break some chains and take her rightful place on the Iron Throne.

“So you want to play god? Come on / Is that all you got? Come on / Would you sell your soul? Burn it all / Everything that you love / Finally become second to none / In a kingdom of one,” she sings on the brooding track.

All the while, a score of unsettling cellos, dulcimers and Scandinavian harps evoke Emmy-nominated composer Ramin Djawadi’s iconic theme.
