Sometimes, dates don't go how you expect them to. Recently, I went on one in Rockwall, and since my partner in crime for the evening was new to the area, we ended up at a place called Shenaniganz.

Yes, with a Z.

Supposedly, it was a Dave and Buster's-type place, and I knew some co-workers had gone for a birthday party and had a blast. So we figured we might as well check it out.

Don't make the same mistake I did! I really can't emphasize this enough. It was legitimately one of the most bizarre recent experiences I've had. The place was strangely deserted — of employees, even — and the only people in sight was a couple making out in the front entrance.

Long story short: We ended up going behind the counter to get some stuff for a sad round of mini-golf ourselves and, after a bit of wandering, we ended up literally speed-walking/running to the car out of pure discomfort.

Fortunately, you don't have to do this. Instead, I've figured out how you can do Rockwall right, so you don't end up feeling trapped in Shenaniganz.

Stop No. 1 : Three Sheets (2075 Summer Lee Drive, Rockwall). I love Three Sheets. It's my go-to post-lake stop when I'm in the area, and it never disappoints. Stopping by here was what salvaged our Shenaniganz-tainted night, too — so you know I mean it. Grab a seat on the patio overlooking the lake, order up some chips and salsa to go with your drinks, and just relax. This place also gets bonus points for serving up excellent pizza that's perfect for sharing with your boo. You can spend hours sitting there talking and taking in the sunset, to the point that it could easily be a whole date on its own — just not tonight.

Stop No. 2: Sail with Scott (2055 Summer Lee Drive, Rockwall). You've seen the sunset, had some drinks and eaten pizza, but now it's time to up the romance factor infinitely with a night out on the lake with Captain Scott Self. There are a couple of options to choose from, ranging from a sunset session to moonlight cruising or a late-night dancing under the stars trip. The best part? It's not only BYOB, but it will only run you about $30 a person. Overall, a night in Rockwall isn't a bad way to impress your date with some beautiful views and a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
