Booty, Booty, Booty, Booty Rockin' Everywhere.

Something happens to a person when they say the phrase “Booty Thril” out loud. There's just a sort of fun vibe that comes with hearing those words — one that lends itself well to cutting loose and forgetting about the daily grind. It's a name that sort of says it all. Right up front, one knows there won't be much time between the moment they press play to the moment their ass begins to twitch, antsy to get moving.

For as easygoing and fun as Dallas producer Booty Thrill's jams are, though, there's still an overall air of sophistication about the whole thing that makes one feel as if this wasn't something slapped together haphazardly just to get some quick attention. Makes sense: The man behind the moniker, Alex Seikaly, is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

But if it weren't for a bit of misfortune, the Booty Thrill project still might have never happened.

“I had a friend in high school who had an MPC 2500 and was into producing and DJing,” Seikaly says. “I remember he showed me how to sample a record and make drum loops. and I was instantly hooked on it. A few weeks later, my group was playing a show in Deep Ellum and my Gibson Les Paul got stolen. I decided to buy a drum machine instead of a new guitar.”

Talk about turning lemons to lemonade.

It didn't us take too many spins of his recently released Thrillwave LP for the song “Lo Down Loretta Brown” to immediately jump out as one of our favorites. The Erykah Badu-sampling track, which also takes its name from Badu's DJ name is just so patently Dallas. First, there's guest emcee J Wallace Ent who boasts about the Maverick's recent championship. Then there's that undeniable hook: “I can tell right away that she's from Dallas.”
