Sponsored by Art+Spirit and PCPC

Based in the history and reality of seventeenth century Japan, Silence explores the effect of Christian persecution on the heart, soul, and faith of Christians and Christian leaders. But not just any persecution: Japan’s leaders made especially virulent, cruel, and overpowering ways of exterminating Christian expression — and keeping it exterminated. We hope that seeing and discussing the film will deepen our love and understanding for Christians under stress and deepen the faith and humility with which we approach our daily lives. Art+Spirit’s Randy Heffner and PCPC’s Chad Scruggs will facilitate the discussion. Those so inclined might ahead of time read Shūsaku Endō’s novel, Silence, on which the film is based, and/or Makoto Fujimura’s book Silence and Beauty, which explores Japan, faith, and the novel.

Art+Spirit is a community at PCPC that interfuses exploration of spirituality and creative endeavors. How can artistic exploration guide us to a truer spiritual path? How can the Scriptures come to life through creative lenses? Such are the questions that interest Art+Spirit. Contact: [email protected]

The screening is free; donations appreciated.
