Event Details

Join us for our first Horchata Night – Wednesday, May 9th at 6p at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

For our first Oak Cliff Horchata Night we have invited Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas to give a Zoning 101 Workshop for residents who want to learn about land use, zoning, and development in the City of Dallas, how residents and communities can engage in this process, and how to advocate for equitable development in your neighborhoods.

We see the changes that are happening, so let’s educate ourselves on how zoning works when it comes to development and how we can advocate for more equitable solutions.

About the organizer:
A native of Oak Cliff, Giovanni Valderas is a visual artist and community advocate. He also served as an appointee by Dallas City Council as Vice Chair of the Cultural Affairs Commission. Valderas graduated from the College of Visual Arts & Design at the University of North Texas with a Master of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting. Recently, Valderas started a public art project “Casita Triste” which aims at creating awareness and advocacy for affordable housing and neighborhood preservation. Mr. Valderas believes a well educated community leads to better civic engagement. [email protected]
