Win a Pair of Tickets to See The Polyphonic Spree Perform Songs from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It was back in July of last year when we first learned that the Polyphonic Spree had shoved a new, decidedly theatrical trick up its collective robed sleeve — a new set added to its repertoire in which the massive outfit performed songs from the 1975 cult musical Rocky Horror Picture Show.

To date, the band has taken its Rocky Horror shtick all across the world — to London, to Australia, to Bonnaroo. But never, not once, not yet at least, has the band performed such seminal songs from that film's soundtrack as “Time Warp” and “Dammit Janet” here in the band's North Texas home. Weird, too: Thomas Jefferson High School alumnus Marvin Lee Aday, better known to the world as Meat Loaf, is one of the film's secondary stars, and both the original and the film's 1981 sequel, Shock Treatment take place in a town called Denton.

But that all changes this Saturday — a day that just so happens to be among the busiest local music dates in recent memory — as the Spree takes to the stage at the Lakewood Theater to host its first-ever Halloween Hootenanny, which promises not only a set of the band performing Rocky Horror songs, as well as a requisite costume contest and shout-along to a midnight screening of the film.

That it's revered area band's first-ever in-town performance of this set of songs alone makes this a must-see; the fact that it's another all-out Spree-helmed holiday blowout is another. The For years now, the Spree have thrown its annual Holiday Extravaganza here in town, performing Christmas songs and cuts from The Nightmare Before Christmas as it does. Expect nothing less celebratory a the Halloween Hootenanny, a promised new annual tradition from the group.

Tickets to the affair will run attendees $25 a pop, but thanks to our friends in the Spree and under the Good Records umbrella, we've got three free pairs of passes to the showcase to hand out for free.

Want one of the pairs? OK, it's pretty simple: Just email me at pete [at] centraltrack [dot] com by 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday, October 31) with the words “Spree Contest” in the subject line, and we'll pick our winners at random this evening. Got it? Good.

Also: Good luck!
