Talking about a music movie with a music person? I'm into it! So that's what I did this week, inviting my childhood buddy Austin Shockley into the studio.

We both agree: Straight Outta Compton is an unexpectedly good movie! It doesn't hurt, either, that rap biopics don't have a great record. So maybe the bar was just pretty low.

Because, just being real, this movie does have some major flaws — particular in regards to the things that weren't included in this telling of the N.W.A. story. The movie also falls victim to one of the problems I see most movies having these days, too, so I used this recording as an opportunity to rail against that.

It's a fun chat, I think. Because, though Austin and I have known each other for a long time, we run in different spheres currently. So he's got a different perspective and a different set of information than I do. And that's always cool. — TC Fleming
