Kevin Smith Is Coming To The Texas Theatre in August.
Here's hoping not. Because, for a certain set, the guy's so much more than that. To these people, who lived through Smith's brilliant cinematic run through the '90s and early '00s, the guy's a Morris Day-defending, religion-questioning, trenchcoat-wearing, Volkswagen-lampooning visionary, a guy who deserves as much credit as anyone else for the meteoric rises of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, really.
People who know and love Smith for all of those reasons and more are going to really enjoy this spate of news, too: Not only is Smith currently in pre-production for both Clerks III and Mallrats 2, but he's also going to be coming to Dallas for a special “An Evening With…” night at the Texas Theatre on Friday, August 28.
And that's an important distinction, by the way: Smith's been through town before in recent years, but those stops have been live podcasting efforts; this one is just the man himself, front and center, when he's truly at his best.
Tickets will cost $35 for general admission, and $55 for VIP (priority admission and seating). They'll go on sale right here, starting tomorrow at 10 a.m.
The show, it's worth noting, is being presented by the Parade of Flesh team, which has been making some nice inroads into the comedy and speaker realms of late. In addition to various comedic performances from Todd Barry, Jay Chandrasekhar and others in recent years, the company is this weekend co-presenting Marc Maron at the South Side Music Hall and will in June welcome Dallas-raised comedian Iliza Schlesinger to Sons of Hermann Hall.
Also worth noting: That kid is back on the escalator again!
